More time to file for middle class STAR exemption

Homeowners take note. if you have not filed for your Middle Class STAR rebate, you have until December 31 to do so. The earlier deadline of Nov. 30 has been extended as a result of a law passed by state lawmakers and signed by Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

The extension addressed difficulties in reaching the STAR hotline at 1-877-678-2769 and the extra time will enable more homeowners to file for those extra dollars.

In addition, homeowners can file their applications online. It is quick, simple and easy and reports of those who have chosen this method of filing indicate that they have received their rebate checks within two weeks. Homeowners who would like to file online can go to www.tax.state.ny.us/star/2007/
