Long Island Crisis Center to offer training

Long Island Crisis Center (LICC), the oldest 24-hour, seven-day-week crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline, is looking for volunteers for its upcoming Volunteer Counselor Assistant Training Program. Those interested in volunteering must first call 826-0244 to schedule an interview. No experience is necessary and the hours are flexible to fit the individual needs of volunteers. The free comprehensive training program takes place over three evenings in LICC's office in Bellmore.

LICC's next training sessions will be held Wednesdays, Dec, 5, 12 and 19, 7 to 10 p.m.

Those who complete Counselor Assistant Training may then choose to attend LICC's extensive training in Crisis Intervention Counseling.

LICC Counselor training is a highly intensive FREE program that teaches Counselors in Training the skills necessary to be effective telephone Crisis Counselors, while teaching valuable life skills in the process.

Counseling is available at LICC 24/ 7 via phone, walk-in and the Internet.
