ToBay offers genealogist guide

Oyster Bay Town Clerk Steve Labriola announced that the Town now has available a guide for genealogists entitled Index to Register of Deaths, Town of Oyster Bay.

Town Historian John Hammond, who compiled a guide to historic cemeteries in the Town of Oyster Bay, has now completed an index of deaths in the Town of Oyster Bay from mid- 1881 to the end of 1919. Anyone working on family genealogy is aware of the little treasure troves these documents are. This guide provides an alphabetical list of names, with the date of death, of 9,421 individuals who died in the Town of Oyster Bay between July 1, 1881, and December 31, 1919. The Index to Register of Deaths, Town of Oyster Bay can be obtained by contacting Town Historian John Hammond at 624-6359. or downloaded from the Town's website, www.oysterbaytown.com. Copies of death records can be obtained by contacting the Town Clerk's Office at 624- 6337. To facilitate processing, the application for genealogy service is included within the index. There is a $22 processing fee for death records.
