IRS has millions in undeliverable NY refund checks

Congressman Peter T. King has been informed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that 8,722 New York residents are due refund checks worth about $10.5 million after their checks were returned as undeliverable.

"The refund checks, averaging about $1,204, can be claimed as soon as potential recipients update their addresses with the IRS," Congressman King said. "Some residents have more than one check waiting."

Congressman King said residents can update their addresses with the IRS by going to www.irs.gov and clicking on the "Where's My Refund?" feature or by calling 1-800-829-1954.

"I want to help my constituents get their refund check as soon as possible." Congressman King stated. "It's easy to update your information and claim your refund by using one of these two options."

Signing up for Direct Deposit can put an end to undeliverable refunds, as well as lost or stolen refund checks. Residents can sign up for direct deposit on their tax form and have their refunds deposited directly into personal checking or savings accounts. Direct Deposit is available for filers of both paper and electronic returns.
