Meeting on Massapequa Preserve set for Thursday

The Friends of the Massapequa Preserve are hosting a meeting Thurs., Nov. 29 at the Bar Harbour Massapequa Library. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

The agenda includes two topics. First, representatives of the Nassau County Department of Public Works will be on hand to explain and answer questions about the department's multi-year $6 million stream enhancement and pond restoration project in the preserve.

The second issue is a proposal to transfer the entire Preserve to the Town of Oyster Bay, and the impact that may have on both the future of the preserve and those who use and enjoy it.

Friends has spent 7 years establishing strong partnerships that have, for the first time in decades, succeeded in bringing the preserve under control, said Rich Schary, a Friends' spokesman. "We need as many people as possible who care about the preserve to attend this meeting," said Schary.
