Donald Graham: Loving Massapequa Park Patriarch, 93
by Tiffany Elliott

Loving Massapequa Park family man and father of ten, whose personality kept him young, Donald S. Graham died November 7, 2007. Those who knew and loved him said he was a positive, charismatic man who simply loved life. He was 93 years old.

Born in the Bronx, he spent many years in Wantagh before moving to Bar Harbor at Southgate in 1979. He lived there for 28 years.

"My dad knew almost everyone in the area because he loved to talk," said his daughter, Aine. "He made everyone feel like a million bucks because he was so interested in your life."

A proud veteran, he earned a Bronze Star during World War II when he served as an Army First Lieutenant based in the Pacific. He was a proud member of the 7th Regiment Armory inNew York City. He spent his career in textiles, first for Burlington Hosiery and then for Ridgeview Mills as a sales executive.

Mr. Graham loved Jones Beach (where many of his children worked as lifeguards), traveling, and was an avid reader who visited the Massapequa Bar Harbour Library almost daily. He also loved to walk and could be seen traipsing all over the Massapequa area.

Mr. Graham leaves behind his children: Marion Gleason, Donald, Barbara Jane, Pamela Meigs, Timothy, Michelle Chasin, Michael and Aine; and eleven grandchildren who called him "Uncle Don." He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Aine who died October 7, 1994 and his sons, Tommy and Robert.

He reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home in Massapequa Park on November 9, 2007. A Funeral Mass was said on November 10, 2007 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa, where he was an active parishioner, followed by interment in Grace Cemetery, Massapequa.

Donations in his name can be sent to the St. Rose of Lima Church Outreach, C/O Sister L. Curtin, 2 Bayview Ave., Massapequa, New York 11758.
