Massapequa expands opportunities in fine art
Seventh grade art teachers at Berner Middle School in Massapequa have been writing curriculum for the new seventh grade Honors by Achievement in Art program. This new enrichment program, modeled after the district's Honors by Achievement Program in Social Studies and English Language Arts, will be open to all seventh grade art students who want to expand their learning experience and strive for excellence. Honors by Achievement in Art raises the level of rigor in the curriculum through advanced skills in observation, sensitivity to media, improvement of technique, inner response, problem solving, feelings, and imagination. Creation of a portfolio and portfolio review will be included as part of the curriculum. Parents and students learned more about all three Honors by Achievement programs at an informative meeting held in October at Berner Middle School.
