Massapequan to perform in the Nutcracker
Massapequa High School sophomore, Shana Goldberger, a striking fifteen year old, balances a hectic daily dance schedule, a long commute and school work wonderfully. A high honors student, Shana travels to St. James in Suffolk County for daily ballet classes at the world renowned Seiskaya Ballet Academy. The daily round trip can take one and half to two hours depending on traffic. Add ballet classes and Nutcracker rehearsals, and one can appreciate her dedication to her art.

This talented teen is slated to perform the Snow Queen, Bo Peep and Spanish roles this season. Seiskaya Ballet presents eight performances of the Nutcracker at Stony Brook University's Staller Center for the Arts December 15-23. Show times and ticket information are available at the Staller Box Office (631) 632-ARTS or www.nutcrackerballet.com.
Asked why she dances, Shana responded, "I dance because I love to express my emotions from the inside whether it is being happy or sad. Dance should be something you feel so that the audience can not only see you but feel the experience as well." "Shana has a charismatic stage presence and is very expressive," noted Mme. Valia Seiskaya the company's Artistic Director. She continued, "Shana's role in Spanish challenges her with intricate heel work, coordinating castanets and projecting a bravura presence. As Bo Peep, Shana can be playful while miming a short story."

And what inspired her to go after the vaunted role of Snow Queen? "Ever since I saw Christina Schifano (former Seiskaya Ballet principal) do the role of the Snow Queen, she was so effortless and gorgeous, I have wanted to become the Snow Queen. I know it will be an amazing experience," Shana concluded.
