Reader objects to views of Libertarian Party

Dear Editor:

I take exception to your Public Commentary selection on your Op Ed page in the Dec. 5 Massapequa Post entitled Firefighters should not be made spies for the government. The article was written by the Executive Director of the Libertarian Party.

Is the Massapequa Post endorsing their view? Has the Massapequa Post turned into an extreme liberal hometown paper? How many of your readers support their view? Do you really support it?

My summary of the commentary is: The Libertarian Party supports a policy of: If you see something, don't say anything. And, the (so called) rights of a potential terrorist would kill you and me, are more important than my Constitutional rights of safety.

You hear it all the time: "If you see something, say something." Is it un-American to do this? Is it un-American to ask someone to do this?

Just the statement of the Libertarian Party Executive Director that the Bush administration is out of touch with the American public in pursuing their so-called "War on Terror" is preposterous. How do they view the Cole attack, 9/11, etc.?

I no longer feel that the Post is my hometown newspaper.

Art Leiz, Massapequa
