MPK Village hosts annual Holiday Open House
by Ronald Scaglia

A festive coating of snow covered the ground as the Village of Massapequa Park held its annual Holiday Open House Dec. 2. Residents crowded into Village Hall for one of Massapequa Park's special days, which is anticipated by the Park's young and young at heart throughout the year.

"It's another wonderful day in Massapequa Park and a great opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and a happy and healthy New Year," said Town of Oyster Bay Council Mem- ber Rose Marie Walker who was on hand along with Village Mayor James Altadonna, Village Trustees and Assemblyman Joseph Saladino.

Of course, the most famous person in attendance was Santa Claus. The jolly old elf sat center stage and greeted the bright-eyed children who came down to tell Santa their holiday wishes.

"This is the fifth year that we've come," said Michelle DeVos, who brought her children, Connor and Liam, to the open house. "It's always a fun event for the kids and the whole family and it's a special treat to meet Santa."

In addition to Santa and the local public officials, there were other famous characters on hand to greet the children. Mickey Mouse, Minnie

Mouse, Shrek and the Grinch helped celebrate the holidays in The Park and youngsters had the chance to have their faces painted.

There was entertaining music as well. The Massapequa High School Treble Singers performed holiday classics such as "Jingle Bell Rock", "Silent Night" and "Celebrate

the Festival of Lights". The McKenna Elementary School

Show Choir performed an entertaining melody of holiday songs under the direction of their advisor, Kathleen McCree, including "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Silver Bells" and "Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel."

"These children audition and show great dedication to the group", said Jean Castelli, principal of McKenna School. She beamed as she said, These are a very dedicated and talented group of children." The holiday Open House is the annual kickoff to the holiday season and as residents left Village Hall, they talked about finishing up their holiday shopping and putting the final touches on their holiday displays.
