Harold T. Nelson, who once was vice president of the Massapequa School Board and helped found the Massapequa International Little League, died on December 16, 2007 in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. He was 89.

Born in Maspeth, Queens on October 16, 1918, he served the U.S. Navy in Naval Intelli- gence based in China and spent his career with the New York City Police Department. He also served as secretary and later vice president of the board and was on Congressman Norman Lents' advisory committee for potential appointees to West Point Military Academy.

"He was a good guy and loved to help kids. In fact when he ran for school board many of his students helped with his campaign" said his son, Harold V. of Hampton Bays who added that his father was also an avid golfer.

After his retirement from the NYPD, he worked as an adjuster and head of the Fraudulent Claims Division for Nationwide Insurance and moved to Greenwich, Connecticut where he was also active as a volunteer at Greenwich Hospital and at St. John's Lutheran Church. Most recently, he was a winter resident of Spanish Lakes and Port St. Lucie, Florida and summered in Hampton Bays, New York.

Mr. Nelson leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Jean; his sons: Harold, Edward and Robert; his daughters in-law: Susan and Sarah; his grandchildren: Jason, Jennifer, Bonnie, Paige, Jane and Charles.

He reposed at the O'Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on December 19 and 20, 2007 followed by private cremation.
