Longtime Massapequa resident Arthur "Artie" Roniger Jr., who worked in the medical field, died March 2, 2008 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after being ill for several years. He was 51 years old.

Born in Rockaway Beach, Queens his family moved to Massapequa when he was a child. A 1974 graduate of Massapequa High School, he lived in the area until he was 25 years old.

Based in a Louisiana hospital, he was a Dosimetrist, a member of a radiation oncology team who specializes in the operation of radiation equipment to help those with cancer. He was one of the first students to study this at Nassau Community College when he lived in Massapequa.

In addition to being an avid coin collector, he was learning how to pilot his own airplane, according to his family.

Mr. Roniger leaves behind his sons: Daniel and Matthew; his parents: Mary and Arthur of Massapequa; his siblings: Robert and his wife Debra, Michael and his wife Doreen and Patricia Venturino and her husband Al; and his ex-wife: Dominique.

He reposed at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home in Seaford. A Mass of Christian Burial was said at St. William the Abbot R.C. Church in Seaford.
