YES conducts classes
      YES Community Counseling Cen­ter is approved by the New York State Department of Education to provide the state's two-hour certifica­tion training for mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. The next training will be provided on Mon., Aug. 18, 7 to 9 p.m. at the agency's location at 75 Grand Ave., Mass­apequa. The cost is $25 per person.

BAC Pow Wow Aug. 9-10
      The Babylon Arts Council and the Town of Babylon are presenting the 28th annual Paumanauke Pow Wow at Tanner Park in Copiague, over­looking the Great South Bay. This ritual gathering offers traditional Na­tive American dancers and drums, audience participation, native food, dance competitions, quality traders and customary crafts. Columbus Lodge golf outing to be held Sept. 8
      Columbus Lodge #2143 of South Farmingdale will be holding a golf outing, Mon., Sept. 8 at Crab Meadow Golf Course, Northport. Registration and lunch will be held at noon. There is a 2 p.m. shotgun start including a roaming beverage cart followed by a buffet dinner with open bar. The cost per golfer is $150. Sponsorships are available.

      Lev Leytzan of Compassionate Clowns Alley, Inc. a not-for-profit organization whose program, Clowns on Call brightens the day of patients at New Island Hospital. Ambitious youth use their time and compassion to deliver doses of laughter and joy to the community, and on Wed., June 25, they did just that at New Island Hospital.

Pythians hold a ceremony for the installation of upcoming officers
      Mid Island Lodge No. 828 Knights of Pythias held its installation of of­ficers ceremony for the coming year. A large turnout of members witnessed the upcoming officers being installed into their new positions. In addition, Supervisor John Venditto and Council­man Joseph Muscarella, also members, attended this event.

Massapequan celebrates 80th birthday with a hike in the Maine north woods
      Priscille Roncallo, a Mas­sapequa resident for over 50 years, hiked one and one quar­ter miles with her pug, China, through thick forest, heavy rain and muddy paths, to see Moxie Falls, in West Forks, Maine. The hike was part of a 10-day 80th birthday trip to northwestern Maine.

Local kids take part in Gymnastics Championships
      Nassau Gymnastics Center, of North Bellmore competed at the U.S.A.I.G.C. - New York State Championships held on May 10 in Edgewood. The Center's girls team won the second place New York state Team Trophy in Lev. S. and fourth place New York State Team Trophy in Lev. B as well as 40 individual awards.

Crane Lake Campers receive Torah loan
      On Sun., May 4 Rabbi Jeffrey Gale of the Suburban Temple presented the tem­ple Youth Torah to Herb May, the site di­rector of Crane Lake Camp of Massachu­setts. The Torah will be on permanent loan to the camp for use at year-round programs, conclaves and summer camp.
