Town looks to extend building moratorium another 6 months
Next month, the Oyster Bay Town Board will be discussing extending the moratorium on construction in Massapequa. Currently in place, the moratorium has halted the issuance of building permits for expansions or construction on residential property south of Merrick Road. The Town is looking to extend that moratorium for another six months to give the town planners time to complete their study of the area. As a result of the recent construction trends that are changing the character of residential neighborhoods in Massapequa, the Town Board enacted a six-month moratorium last year. It also authorized the town's planners to conduct a study of the area and make recommendations concerning zoning and other measures that would provide the proper balance to allow for development and redevelopment while protecting the character of the community, explained Town Supervisor John Venditto.
"The planning consultant has requested additional time to analyze the results of the study and make recommendations for the board's approval," said the supervisor.
