Stop World Hunger Tennis Tournament
Registration is underway for the 28th Annual Stop World Hunger Tennis Tournament. The tournament is open to tennis players who have not qualified to participate in this year's U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. Intermediate (3.0-3.5), advanced intermediate (3.5-4.0), and advanced (4.0-4.5+) players from more than 40 Long Island communities are expected to take part.
The purpose of the tennis tournament is to provide an enjoyable recreational activity, while helping those in desperate need. All entry fees and donations are forwarded to Catholic Relief Services to assist in their efforts to feed God's hungry children throughout the world. Assistance is provided in 100 countries where the need is greatest regardless of race, religion, and/or nationality.
Events consist of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. The cost is $6 for singles and $10 for doubles. Participants schedule their own matches at mutually convenient times and sites. All matches are to be played between Sept. 13 and Nov. 16. The deadline for registration is Tues., Sept. 2.
