Mae Terino, resident of Massapequa Park
Mae Terino was a woman whose faith motivated her to work on behalf of others. A devoted mother and wife, she also volunteered at the Our Lady of Lourdes school and church and lived in Massapequa Park for 51 years. She died July 19, 2008. She worked in the rectory and in the school, and volunteered to work with deaf children. "She had a religious spirit
She also enjoyed cooking Italian food, planting flowers in her garden and embroidering. Her daughter added that "anything she embroidered was always given away to someone who needed it."
Mrs. Terino was also a member of the Rosary Society, and the Legion of Mary.
Theresa recalls how her mother made a tradition of walking with her to the luncheonette every Sunday to enjoy a malted.
"She didn't drive, but she could walk everywhere," said her daughter who described her mother as a "quiet person who was very loving and generous. She was always there for us," she said.
Her generosity extended to those outside her family as well. Mrs. Terino would often cook spaghetti dinners for the nuns in the convent, along with her other volunteer work. Her husband of 58 years, John, described her as a wonderful person. "She was very devoted to me," he said.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Mrs. Terino is survived by her son-in-law Stephen, of Ellenberg, New York. She was predeceased by her daughter Rosemary.
Mrs. Terino reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home in Massapequa Park. A Mass of Christian Burial was said at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, Wednesday July 23, 10:45 a.m., with interment following in St. Charles Cemetery.
