Blood Drive to be held in MPK Sept. 11

2008-09-03 / Events & Calendar

In his continuing effort to establish September 11th as a national day of voluntary service, charity and good deeds, Congressman Peter T. King (R-Seaford) will be holding his second annual blood drive on Thurs., Sept. 11 from 10 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. at his District Office, 1003 Park Blvd., Massapequa Park. The blood drive will be administered by Long Island Blood Services.

"This blood drive is a way to encourage people to perform one special deed on September 11th, as a way to honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day," Congressman King stated. "It is also a way to rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion that existed in the nation after the tragedy."

According to Congressman King, the Long Island region suffers from a shortage of local blood donors, as only two percent of the region's population donates blood each year, compared to the national average of five percent.

Donors must be age 16 to 75 (16 with written parental permission; 76 plus will be accepted with doctor's note), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in general good health. At the time of donation, donors must have either a photo or signed identification and know their social security number.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, please contact Congressman King's Massapequa Park District Office at 516 or 631- 541-4225.
