Public Commentary
Dear Editor:
I applaud Republican John McCain for choosing a woman, Sarah Louise Palin as his running mate and vice presidential candidate. McCain and Palin can can be a movement of real change crossing barriers of gender and challenging political sexism (as in the sexist card that was dealt to Hillary Clinton.)
Whereas Obama failed in opening the door for a woman and left Hillary behind failing to choose her as his running mate, McCain took a new direction in selecting Sarah Louise Heath Palin. Women voters didn't speak quietly, they shouted for a voice in politics. Women spoke and McCain heard. Given, it was not the party to which women spoke, but the woman's voice was heard after all.
Disgruntled Clinton supporters may be moved to take their votes and march over to McCain. Come November, perhaps I will reconsider and vote Republican. Politics isn't a man's game after all.
