Library offers workshop for teens
The Massapequa Public Library's young adult department is presenting Katie's Secret, a workshop for teen and pre-teen boys and girls in grades seven through nine, on Wed., Sept. 17, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Library at 523 Central Ave. The workshop, presented by Stony Brook-based Parents' for Megan's Law, teaches the importance of intervention and stresses the need to keep telling until the child receives help. It also educates children about their own power, choices, the need to take action and the resources available to help. Other points covered include recognizing the warning signs of abuse, appropriate dating behavior and developing personal safety strategies for various "what if" scenarios. This is a free workshop. Register by calling the reference desk at either building.
