Is the tennis bubble still in the works for Massapequa?

Dear Editor:

Is There a Bubble in Our Future? I read with great interest your story on TOBAY upgrading our local Park facilities. The question I have and about 100 other seniors who play daily tennis at John Burn's Park is; "Is the planning on covering 4 of the tennis courts with an inflatable bubble." The answer is apparently very confusing and very hard to obtain from the responsible town officials.

It all started with a rumor several months ago that indicated the town was planning on putting up the bubble, without any local tennis players' input and that it would contain several portable basketball hoops. I understand several inquiring phone calls were made and a meeting was held with a few of the players, in order to clarify the situation. Because of the overwhelming opposition by the players, the final outcome by town officials in late May, as I understand it, was "The bubble is dead, definitely dead".

My own quest to clarify the question started in mid June with an email to the town's web site. The site responded that it was forwarding my question to Comm. John Betts and that I should also call him, which I did. In fact I left several messages and got no response. Guess what? Just three weeks ago a drilling crew and truck showed up at John Burn and drilled several holes in the concrete that surrounds the tennis courts. A town employee with the crew stated that this was part of a soil sampling feasibility study for installing a bubble over the courts. He took my number and promised that Mr. Betts would give me a call but he never did.

Again I placed a call to Mr. Betts' office and left a detailed message stating that we needed a definitive clarification and answer.

My question is: Is the bubble "dead?" and if it is, "Why are we spending taxpayer money on a dead Bubble?"
