The Massapequa International Little League 9-10 year-old Williamsport Tournament Team won the New York State District 31 championship by defeating Merrick in an exciting final-inning, comefrom behind victory. The championship came down to a single elimination game after Massapequa traded victories with Merick, winning 1-0 and losing 2-1 in the double elimination tournament. Massapequa faced the possibility of elimination early in the third and deciding game.

The strong Merrick team struck early and let 6-0 after two innings. Massapequa, down 6-3 after five innings, battled back to score seven runs in the 6th and final inning to win the New York State title 10-6 in an incredible, pressure-filled game.

The Massapequa "boys of Summer" continued on strong in the Williamsport Tournament, defeating Rockville Centre, Franklin Square and Merillon to sweep the Long Island Championship pool play. They advanced to the Final 4 for Long Island and finished as one of the top 16 teams in New York State. At the conclusion of the tournament, the team members held a two-week "shimmy shake" celebration, getting together every evening to hang their NYS District Championship Banner on a new teammates house.
