•The Harbor Lane Library offers space to play intergenerational chess, Fridays, 2 p.m. Registration is requested but not required. Bring your chess set if you have one.

•The Central Avenue Library is offering the Literature and Life Book Discussion Group, Tues., Oct. 21, 1 p.m. This month's book is Unless by Carol Shields and will be lead by Dr. Ellen Parker.

•Registration is underway for a number of trips: On Fri. Oct. 24, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. a bus trip to Platzle Brauhaus in Pomona will be offered with a lunch of German specialties. The cost is $68. A bus trip to see the show Jersey Boys will be held Wed., Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along with lunch at Sangria on 46th Street for a total of $162. On Tues., Dec. 9, 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. a holiday night light tour will be held in New York City with an early family-style meal at Carmines at 3 p.m. Contact the library for further details.

•Game Show Night will be held Thurs., Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m. Newsday crossword editor Stan Newman returns with a test just like the ones used by TV game shows ande the top scorers will compete for prizes in other games.

•On Sat. Oct. 18, 10 a.m. a Halloween craft will be offered for all ages and a parent. Registration is underway.

•The Al E. Gator Marionette Show will be presented Sun., Oct. 18m 2 p.m.,

•The Paranormal Adventurers will give a presentation on Long Island Pirates, Mon., Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m.

•On Tues., Oct. 21, 1 p.m. Roger Sherman, who is a longtime Farmingdale resident who suffers from macular degeneration and is legally blind, will discuss his book, Reflections on Fun and Adventure.

•Registration is underway for Computer First Grade for Grown-ups to be held Fri., Oct. 17, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $22. This hands-on class introduces new computer users to working with text. Learn how to create, edit, save and open documents in word processing.

•The Vic Vincent Group will present Rock, Doo-Wop and Pop Show, Sun., Oct. 19, 2 p.m.

•On Tues., Oct. 21, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. discussion leader Fran Cohen will cover the book Water For Elephants. See Jose Diaz at the reference desk to sign up and obtain a copy of the book.
