Gertrude Caputo: 47-year Lindenhurst resident

Longtime Lindenhurst resident Gertrude Caputo, who had worked in Massapequa, died Sept. 13, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. She was 83.

She was born to Harry and Mary (Liskin) Fogel on Jan. 30, 1925 in Brooklyn and later dedicated herself to caring for her four children, husband and home. She lived in Lindenhurst for 47 years and worked for some time in the sales department of Sears in Massapequa.

Mrs. Caputo leaves behind her children: Michael and his wife Janice, Patricia Clark and her husband Steve, and William Jr. and his wife Pamela. Her grandchildren, Scott Clark, Cory and Ashley Freilich and Scott, Joshua, Ryan and Emilia Caputo also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, William in May of 2008, and her daughter, Barbara Freilich.

Rabbi Janise Poticha conducted a service at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on Sept. 16, 2008. Interment followed in National Cemetery at Calverton.
