Sierra Club and TOB host seminar on clean energy for our schools Nov. 12
On Wed., Nov. 12 at the Massapequa High School Auditorium, 4925 Merrick Rd., Massapequa the Long Island Sierra Club and the Town of Oyster Bay will bring together energy consultants and experts, school officials, students, parents, and taxpayers from across the town and the island to learn about the budgetary and environmental benefits of bringing renewable energy and energy efficiency to schools. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. and the seminar begins 7:30 p.m.
Topics to be discussed will cover how energy performance assessments of schools and renewable energy can help reduce energy consumption and energy bills while teaching students about energy conservation and the environment. Energy reduction benefits can add up to a financial savings while helping reduce the tax burden to taxpayers.
Parents and school officials will be able to speak to the experts who work in the industry and have helped schools save millions of dollars in energy and operational costs. How is this accomplished? By conducting energy audits of building operations - electrical, lighting, heating, cooling, security, fire and life safety, while guaranteeing savings which school districts can then use to finance renewable energy installations and improvements to facilities. Guest speakers include Facilites Managers who have implemented this program in their school district, LIPA, and Energy Performance Contractors.
The Schools Choosing Renewable Alternatives Seminar is part of Sierra Club's Cool Cities Program, which recognizes, encourages, and fosters actions to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions. The seminar is free and open to the public.
