Nancy Stansfield: former MPK mayor's spouse
by Tiffany Elliott

The wife of a former Massapequa Park Mayor, Nancy Lorraine Stansfield, died December 17, 2007 in Clinton, New York after a long illness. She was 86 and was the wife of Alfred J. Stansfield who served as the Mayor from 1964 to 1965.

Born Nancy Lorraine Milne on July 10, 1921 in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia, she met U.S. Army serviceman Alfred Stansfield and married him in Melbourne, Australia on June 5, 1945.

For 35 years, she lived in Massapequa Park and raised her family here. For ten years during the 1960s, she worked at Gimbels Department Store in the former Bar Harbor Shopping Center. In 1988, she and her husband moved to Clinton, New York and wintered in Clearwater, Florida until 1998.

According to her family, she was a gifted cook and seamstress who delighted in making sweaters for her loved ones. She also liked to garden and do needlepoint.

Mrs. Stansfield leaves behind her children: John R. and his wife Trish of Nashua, New Hampshire and Lori Scoones and her husband Warren of Vernon, New York; and her three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Alfred, in July 2006.
