Eagle Scout candidate Ryan Wozny organizes effort to clean up preserve

Eagle Scout candidate Ryan Wozny of North Massapequa organized Venture Crew 53, an adult scouting organization, in a massive clean up of a half acre in the Massapequa Preserve. This area had been a dumping ground for more than 25 years. Ryan's group hauled out a truckload of junk, including used auto parts, shopping carts, concrete blocks, vinyl tarps, and landscaping refuse. After the second day of clean up, Ryan supervised the installation of a six-foot high chain link fence and the posting of a Nature Preserve rules sign to ensure that the area remains garbage free.

The restoration of this part of the Preserve was co-sponsored by Friends of Massapequa Preserve and the L.I. Greenbelt Trail Conference. Both groups thanked Ryan and his volunteers for undertaking and completing this challenging project.
