FBHS winter Winter Lecture Series begins Jan. 20 The first of the four-program 2008 Winter Lecture Series of the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society (FBHS) will be a pictorial presentation on Theodore Roosevelt and His Love of Trains, to be given Sun., Jan 20, 2 p.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library. Railroad historian David Morrison will be the speaker. This year, 2008, marks the 150th anniversary of the 26th President's birth. The Town of Oyster Bay is planning a series of events to note this sesquicentennial and the FBHS program is among the first. John Hammond, historian of the Town of Oyster Bay, is planning to make introductory remarks on the commemoration of the session. Morris, the speaker, has devoted many years to researching and writing on regional railroad history. More recently, he has been instrumental in the effort to preserve and restore the former LIRR station at Oyster Bay (1889) as a railroad museum. It was the structure that Theodore Roosevelt knew as his rail station the latter half of his life. Lawrence R. Jorgensen, president of the FBHS, invites all interested area residents to attend this free program and to plan to be present for the future presentations in the Winter Lecture Series on Sundays Feb. 10, March 2 and 30, 2 p.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library, 116 Merritts Rd.
