Property assessment appeals must be filed before March 3 State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding Nassau County residents that they have the legal right to file a grievance if they believe that their property has been over-assessed by the County's Department of Assessment. “Each year, the law allows Nassau County residents to challenge their property assessment, which is set by the County's Department of Assessment. Individuals who believe that their property assessment is too high should take advantage of their right to file an appeal,” said Senator Fuschillo. Nassau County residents who want to challenge their property assessment must file an application with the Assessment Review Com mission (ARC) before March 3. ARC does not charge a fee to file an application. ARC is an independent administrative tribunal, separate from the Nassau County Department of Assessment, that provides determinations of taxpayers' requests for review and reduction of assessments. ARC reduces assessments that it finds overvalued, corrects errors in tax class designations and reviews denials of exemptions; ARC cannot increase assessments.
Applications may be filed either through the mail or over the Internet. More information can be obtained by contacting the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission at 516- 571-3214, by visiting their website at www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/ARC, or by visiting Senator Fuschillo's website at www.senatorfuschillo.com.
