Rita Cousins: 37-year Massapequan

Longtime Massapequan Rita P. Cousins, who loved and cherished her family, died Dec. 23, 2007. She was 72 years old.

She emigrated to Long Island from Northern Ireland in 1964 with her husband and settled in Brooklyn. In 1970, the couple moved to Berkeley Place in Massapequa where she lived for 37 years.

According to her son, she worked in sales auditing at the corporate offices of Barnes & Noble in Westbury for 17 years until her retirement.

"My mom was always very active. In fact, she was so bored after her retirement, she went back to work there part time," said her son, Damien, who added the she loved to read and garden.

Mrs. Cousins leaves behind her son, Damien and his wife Angelina of Massapequa; her grandson, Corey; and her brothers, John and George Burns. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1987.

She reposed at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home in Seaford on December 27, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 28, 2007 at St. William the Abbot R.C. in Seaford followed by private cremation.
