Unqua Elementary computer club gets down to nuts and bolts
Third and fourth grade students at Unqua Ele mentary School in the Massapequa School District have been expanding their knowledge about computers during an extra-curricular Computer Club facilitated by Unqua math teacher Bryan Piotrowski. At the first meeting of the club, students accessed an informational web site where they viewed a short video that introduced computer hardware. Following the online demonstration, students removed the case from a computer and identified the motherboard, central processing unit (CPU), video card, sound card, networking card, random access memory (RAM), power supply, CD-ROM and hard drive. In addition to identifying these crucial components, students in the club discussed the function of each piece of hardware to gain a greater understanding of how computers, which most students use on a regular basis, work. Shown in the photo is Bryan Piotrowski and Computer Club members engaged in a discussion of the "nuts and bolts" of computers.
