Northside School Horizon students have a design experience in Manhattan

Mrs. Shapiro's Northside School Horizon students in grades three, four and five, ventured to the Cooper- Hewitt National Design Museum in Manhattan on Oct. 24. Cooper Hewitt provides insight into how design shapes our everyday lives. The tour guides led the students through Giovanni Battista Piranesi's (1720- 1778) etchings, original drawings and decorative objects. These Farmingdale students also viewed the works of other contemporary architects. After the tour, the students and the chaperones visited the upper level of the Museum to Ingo Mauer's light display. His creations use various materials

for these original designs and combine unusual ideas to create extraordinary works of art. The Horizon

students were blown away at the pieces of artwork. This trip helped to enhance the student's study of design and to enrich their understanding of creativity.
