Unqua Elementary school students recreate cave art during study of stone age
Students in Amy Kanavy-Curry's sixth grade class at Unqua Elementary School in the Massapequa Public School District traveled back to the Stone Age when they examined cave art from the "Chauvet" and "Lascaux" caves of the time period. Using their knowledge of history, students were able to determine the subject of the cave art, and the materials and colors used by people of the era. As a culmination of their studies, students had the unique opportunity to recreate this art work to gain greater appreciation of the skill these Stone Age artists possessed and to open up a dialogue on the meaning of the work left behind by Stone Age cave artists.
