Fairfield Assistant Principal Receives PTA Life Achievement Award

Massapequa's Fairfield Elementary School PTA honored Assistant Principal, Terese Steinhauer for her commitment and devotion to the children of Fairfield Elementary School with a National PTA Life Achievement Award. As the highest honor that a PTA can bestow, this award is an especially significant way to honor outstanding people in the community. The award has been given since 1899, just two years after the founding of National PTA, to pay tribute to those who have given outstanding service demonstrating they care about young people.

Fairfield's Principal Jason Esposito presented the award at the annual Fairfield PTA Endof Year dinner. Esposito stated in his presentation, "Mrs. Steinhauer is very deserving of this award and as her colleague and friend, I am overjoyed to present it to her. Her dedication and commitment to the PTA and the children of Fairfield are key ingredients to the nurturing and supportive environment that exists at Fairfield."

Steinhauer taught third grade at Birch Lane Elementary School after taking time off to raise her two daughters, Christine and Deborah. She served on the PTA Executive Board and on several parent committees and also was the school's PTA liaison, a position she continued in until 2001 when she came to Fairfield School as the assistant principal.

"My administrative role as the assistant principal at Fairfield is a true partnership with Mr. Esposito," said Steinhauer. "Together we work towards making Fairfield a special place for teachers, students and parents. "

Steinhauer also volunteered her time as a mentor teacher for new teachers. She serves on multiple district committees, and has worked with her colleagues to develop a districtwide ELA curriculum.

Other committees Steinhauer has been active on include: The Early Childhood Committee, the Elementary Report Card Committee, the Elementary Social Studies Committee, the New Teacher's Committee, and the District Gifted and Talented Committee, which enabled Fairfield to be the first school in the Massapequa School District to pilot the school-wide enrichment model.

"Mrs. Steinhauer is so deserving of this award. Her dedication and love for teaching is demonstrated every day in her commitment to the children of Fairfield," said Susanne Smoller Fairfield's PTA President.
