Farmingdale School district installs SMART boards

The Farmingdale School District Board of Education has announced new goals for the 2007-2008 school year, which were adopted at the Wednesday, Nov. 7 Board meeting. In discussing the 2007-2008 goals, Board President Shari Bardash-Eivers noted, "These goals support our district's commitment to providing an environment that helps our students achieve their highest potential." In accordance with the Board's 2007-2008 goals, the district is installing new technology that will help teachers facilitate the learning process for students. The district-wide initiative includes implementation of SMART Board technology in all school buildings.

A SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard that connects a computer to a projector so teachers can use it to display and print notes, access the Internet, and use PowerPoint among other interactive applications. SMART Board technology provides students with an easily accessible and understandable view of the learning process. Board President Bardash- Eivers agrees, "This is a fabulous use of our district funds. Teachers are thrilled with this new educational tool that enhances and greatly increases the participatory aspect of the learning process for their students."

The first installation of SMART Board technology has already begun at the elementary school level. Installation is scheduled in all fifth- grade classrooms, as well as science and math rooms at the middle school and high school.
