Roger Gentile, 54, N.C. Detective and former 'Pequan Retired Nassau County Detective and longtime Massapequa Park resident, Roger P. Gentile died in Holtsville after a long-term illness on December 28, 2007. He was 54 years old. Born in Queens, he lived on Broadway in Massapequa Park for 25 years until he moved to Holtsville in 2001. "Roger loved Massapequa Park. Even though we moved out to get a bigger home, In our hearts Massapequa is our home," said his wife of 34 years, Kathy. He retired in 2004 as a Detective in the Third Squad in the Nassau County Police Department in Williston Park. According to his wife, he loved to play golf and Texas Hold 'Em, spend time with his grandchildren and was a talented woodworker. Mr. Gentile also leaves behind his children: Amanda Licci and her husband Joseph, Glenn and Anthony; his grandchildren: Anthony and Ava; his mother, Caroline; his siblings: Victor, Maryanne, Brady, Joseph, Carolyn Magness, Anthony, Michael, Anne Gougler and Susan Hilton; his mother-in-law, Helen Sotirhos; his in-laws: George and his wife Christine, Dorothy and Emanuel and his wife Diane; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Victor and his father in-law Anthony Sotirhos. He reposed at the McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home in Farmingdale on Jan. 2, 2008. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Kilian R.C. Church on Jan. 3, 2008 followed by private burial.
