Resident opposes land swap between Plainedge and TOB

Dear Editor:

I am a resident of North Massapequa. I object to the land swap by the Town of Oyster Bay and the Plainedge School District for many reasons. A commercial building does not belong in the middle of a beautiful residential block. The quality of life for most directly impacted would be seriously compromised. The traffic that will be added to our local streets and the noise factor that will be generated by this proposal will most assuredly reduce the value of our homes.

Further, many of the residents who live in the immediate area of the Sylvia Packard School are not members of the Plainedge School District, but of the Farmingdale School District. We will have to pay for this swap, but we will have no say in this matter. That is taxation without representation. This costly proposal should be voted on by all residents of the Town of Oyster Bay and not just the Plainedge School District residents.

Many of the residents in our area, even those not directly impacted, would prefer to have this residential property used for private homes or senior citizen housing. Since school districts come under the auspices of state government, I would ask that state lawmakers intercede in this matter.
