Frank Armanno: inventor, writer and former Massapequan
According to his family, Mr. Armanno held about 35 patents and invented the Bowl-Chem, a hanging toilet bowl cleaner, the animated owl that deters predator birds, various fishing lures and hurricane shelter houses, in part. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II where he was injured. In 1955, he moved to Pompano Lane in Massapequa and later Nesconset before retiring to Florida in 1989. For many years, he worked in research and development at Grumman Aerospace until his retirement in 1984. Some of his projects included work on the the Lunar Landing Module, the Army Mohawk Fighter, Navy Surveillance Aircraft and laser weapons. He was the owner of Progressive Time, a company that sold air frequency to cellular companies, and ran an online store, Prog Time, where he sold both his poems and inventions. He won several poetry contests. After his retirement, he continued inventing, listening to classical music and watching classic movies as well as keeping active by swimming, fishing and treasure hunting with his metal detector. "My uncle was considered a unique person by those who knew and loved him," said his niece, Rose Marie Padovano. Mr. Armanna leaves behind his second wife, Antonia of Fort Pierce, Florida; his children: Frank Jr. of Coram, Janet Kindler of California and Russell and his wife Carol of New Jersey ; his six grandchildren; and other family members. He was predeceased by his first wife of 57 years, Marion.
A private ceremony and burial was held by the family in Florida.
