Amelia Bakalac, of Massapequa, at 78

Longtime North Massapequa resident Amelia J. Bakalac, who spent her life taking care of her family, died Jan. 4, 2008. She was 78 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, she lived on North Suffolk Avenue in North Massapequa for more than 42 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved life, according to her husband, Nicholas.

"She loved her friends and family...she led a full and happy life," he said adding that she loved to bowl, play bingo and travel to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

For many years she was a secretary for the Association for the Help of Retarded Children's (AHRC) Bowling League.

Mrs. Bakalac leaves behind her daughter, Celeste Montello and her husband Vincent of Levittown; her grandchildren: Vincent and Valerie; her nieces and nephews: Robert, Inez, Andrea and Andrew; her great-nieces and greatnephews: Amanda, Peter, Kyle, Olivia, Carly and Ava.

She reposed at the James Funeral Home in Massapequa on Jan. 6, 2008. A Funeral Mass was said on Jan. 7, 2008 at Maria Regina R.C. Church in Seaford followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery.
