Former N.Y. Met Ed Kranepool to be honored at Hagedorn School Dinner

Ed Kranepool, the legendary number seven Mets first baseman, will be honored Tues., Oct. 21 at the annual awards dinner in the Garden City Hotel held by the Hagedorn Little Village School of Seaford/North Massapequa, which honors an active participant in programs that benefit young children. Last year's Golden Rule Award went to Bruce "Cousin Brucie" Morrow for his charitable work with children.

Kranepool graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx in June of 1962 and signed a bonus contract with the New York Mets. At age 17, he played for a few weeks each at Syracuse, Knoxville and Auburn. In September of 1962 he joined the Mets while the team was playing in Los Angeles and then played for the team from 1962 to 1979 when he retired. Since his retirement from baseball he has been active with his foundation assisting The Hagedorn Little Village School, hospital and youth groups by sponsoring golf tournaments, charity luncheons and dinners that benefit children needs.

Also during the dinner, the Susan Weshler Memorial Award will be presented to Stephen and Arlene Genatt. Mr. Genatt is president of Genatt Associates Insurance Brokerage. Mrs. Genatt is a practicing family therapist. The Genatts devote much of their time to community affairs. They have bneen married for 45 years and have five grandchildren.

Founded by Caryl Bank, Ph.D. and Barbara Feingold, Ph.D. in 1969 , the Hagedorn Little Village School has been effectively delivering a renowned comprehensive network of innovative programs and services for infants and young children with developmental disabilities. The school currently provides services to hundreds of children annually.
