St. David's Lutheran Church promotes hunger awareness
For the past 34 years, St. David's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Massapequa Park along with thousands of other churches in the United States, use Super Bowl Sunday to bring about awareness of the hunger in the United States and around the world by collecting funds for the hungry. St. David's divides their collected funds between the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) World Hunger Appeal and the Interfaith Nutritional Network (INN) in Freeport. The Freeport INN serves 225 free hot lunches daily to the needy. Twice a month St. David's cooking group, known as the Soup Spoilers, cook up 20 gallons of soup that they deliver to the Freeport soup kitchen.
Shown in the photo, the donations are collected in a soup pot on Super Bowl Sunday at St. David's.
