Robert Barrow: Longtime 'Pequan and WWII Veteran Former 30-year Massapequa resident Robert E. Barrow died Jan. 12, 2008 at North Shore University Hospital in Plainview. He was 87. He was born Jan. 4, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edward and Rebecca (nee Savage) and served with the 99th Airborne Squadron during World War II. According to his stepdaughter, Jacqueline Gompf, he lived in the home he built on Monroe Avenue in Massapequa for three decades. Until his retirement, he worked as a maintenance representative for Varig, a Brazilian airline, for more than 40 years. In addition to his stepdaughter, Mr. Barrow is survived by his sister, Kathleen Butler; his grandchildren: Elise, Tanja and Malcolm; his great granddaughter: Ella; his niece Deborah Dishman and her husband Roland; many nieces and nephews and other family members. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Adah "Elise," in 2003.
A private cremation took place under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Amityville. At a later date, there will be a memorial service and interment of cremains in Amityville Cemetery.
