Massapequa's Berner Middle School earns top spot at LEGO league tournament

Shown is Massapequa's Berner Middle School's Team Elite 1337. They stand victorious as the champions of the SBPLI-LI FIRST LEGO League Tournament in 2008.
The annual lego competition featuring 49 elementary and middle schools across Long Island was recently held at Longwood High School in Middle Island. Following eight weeks of research and design, the teams demonstrated their problem-solving skills, creative thinking, teamwork, competitive play and sportsmanship.

This year's competition challenged students to find sustainable options to meet our planet's growing energy needs in environmentally sound ways.
