Joseph Amoroso: actor, retired NYFD employee, at 76
"Joe lived a wonderful life. He was very happy and healthy...he never took any type of medication," said his wife Raffaela who described him as the loving family patriarch. "He was happiest when he was with his family." Born in Brooklyn, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He lived in Massapequa for 42 years and was a retired New York City Firefighter who worked near the Brooklyn waterfront at Ladder 101. For more than 27 years, he and Raffaela were dedicated volunteers at the BOCES Carman Road School where they helped handicapped children walk to and from class. Mr. Amoroso loved to sing and encouraged all of his children and grandchildren to do the same by paying for lessons. He also loved to act and when he was 65 years old started working as an extra in movies and television shows. He was in a 2001 film 15 Minutes with Robert De Niro, and was an extra in several Soprano episodes. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children: Laura McCabe and her husband Jimmy of Massapequa and Michele Koetzner and her husband Mark of Massapequa; his grandchildren: Jamie, Joseph, Kelsey and Michaela; and his siblings: Ciro and his wife Rose and Minnie Porretto and her husband Dominic. He reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home in Massapequa Park Jan. 23, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial was said on Jan. 24, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery.
