James Hughes of F'dale to receive distinguished teacher award

James Hughes from Farmingdale High School has been invited to receive the Distinguished Teacher 2008 award at the Harvard Club of Long Island University Relations Brunch in April. Only a dozen teachers from all of Long Island receive this award out of many who were nominated.

Hughes is a history teacher in the Farmingdale School District. As one of the distinguished teachers, Hughes has been recognized as a teacher who sets high standards, models discipline, shares his love of learning and joy of achievement with his students. The Harvard Club of Long Island sought out current Harvard undergraduates to nominate the seventh through twelfth grade teachers who made the greatest difference in their lives.

Hughes has been recognized as a teacher with, "a passion for teaching, cares for every student...his sense of humor created a comfortable learning environment."

Hughes is invited to the Harvard Club of Long Island Distinguished Teacher Award for 2008 ceremony in April. Two of the named distinguished teachers will be selected to receive scholarships to a Harvard Graduate School of Education professional development program.
