Our schools need new ideas

Dear Editor:

I want to thank you for your informative article on Gary Slavin and John Lynott's candidacy for the Massapequa School Board. It is great to see candidates put forth refreshing ideas instead of the same old complaints about high taxes with no real solutions offered. Typically, the focus is on teacher's salaries, class size and frivolous spending. When was the last time a candidate made it onto the board and actually changed something that saved us money?

Contrary to what the existing board members say, our school district has plenty of professional educators focusing on scholastic programs- what it needs are new ideas. What these two candidates offer is a legitimate opportunity to change the economic landscape for our school district.

As your article described, Slavin and Lynott are proven commodities. They have consistently bridged the gap between community and politics to gain economic assistance for Massapequa. Who else can legitimately say that?

Thomas Egan
