Massapequa Chamber has a Ball celebrating its 60th
By Carolyn James

More than 300 people gathered at the Manor East in Massapequa March 28, recognizing the 6th anniversary of the Chamber of Commerce and recognizing businesses that represented the chamber's past, present and future.

The event brought out a host of Massapequa residents, local business owners and public officials who celebrated the event and enjoyed an evening of good food, music and entertainment. The evening also featured the comedy of Christopher who kept the crowd laughing and a photo presentation commemorating the chamber's work over the past six decades.

"Everyone had a good time and it was a wonderful opportunity for us to get together and celebrate Massapequa," said Chamber President Joe Basile.

The event was organized by a committee including cochairs Jamie Bogenschutz of YES Community Counseling and Sue Martin CPA. Committee members included Carol Hasenstab, Commerce Bank; Annmarie McMullan, Annie Shines; Bob Barrett, Real Estate Expediter; Bob Rubino, Neighbor News; Joe Basile, TLB Enterprises; Carol Leff, Leff & Leff Attorneys at Law, and Pete Gisonda, former Postmaster.

"Everyone brings something very different to the community and uses their talent and expertise to help one another and all of Massapequa," said Bogenschutz. "That is what makes the Chamber so wonderful."

"The Chamber is far richer and stronger because of the efforts of our honorees and everyone here," said Joe Basile, the Chamber's president. "The extraordinary leadership of our past presidents, and our members who support us throughout the year have enabled us to prosper."

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto congratulated the chamber and took a few minutes to recount his memories of growing up in Massapequa and said it is a special place to live and work. "Part of that is because of people and organizations such as yours," he said.

Representing the Chamber's past was the Mass-

apequa Post, whose founders, Ira and Barbara Cahn started the newspaper in 1951, three years after the Chamber was formed. The present honoree was the Park Pequa Florist at 536 Broadway, and its owners Joe and Vinny Bordino. Annie Shines Cleaning Service, owned by Annemarie McMcMullan, was recognized as the Chamber's tribute to the future.Watch next week's edition for more on this Chamber event.
