Ames students welcome others to their tobacco free school zone
As part of the Massapequa Public School District's Tobacco-Free Schools initiative, students in Denise Baldinger's health classes conducted an observation field study of the Massapequa High School - Ames Campus with the help of Gail Volk from Western Suffolk BOCES. The object of the study was to pinpoint where the smoking "hot spots" are by walking around the building and its surroundings, and posting "Tobacco Free Zone" signs in the area to curtail smoking on and around school grounds. Through this BOCES grant, Baldinger and the staff are hopeful that the Massapequa High School - Ames Campus will remain smoke- free both in and out of the building, at all times, including during the school day, during after school and evening activities and over weekends and vacations.
