AFDNC joins forces to fight consolidation

The Association of Fire Districts of Nassau County have received the support of State Senators and Assemblymen from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties in their opposition to the possible consolidation of fire districts. Fire District officials have stated that the local fire tax is the smallest of any local tax on Long Island and that the local fire departments are the best form of local government. Commissioner Craig Craft of the Wantagh Fire District and president of the Nassau County Fire Districts Association said, "the local fire departments come when they are called."

Members of the Long Island Legislative Committee and the New York State Chiefs Association attended the breakfast meeting along with eight members of the state assembly. This is the first time that so many state officials have met with local fire service officers.
