Longtime Massapequa Park resident John K. Smillie died Dec. 6, 2008. He was 62.

Born in Queens, he lived in Massapequa Park for more than 40 years, most recently on Willow Street.

Mr. Smillie was a member of the U.S. Air Force and served as an athletic trainer for N.Y.I.T. and SUNY Old Westbury Colleges.

He leaves behind his mother: Dorothy Smillie; his children: John III and his wife June and Jody Tafuro and her husband Michael; his grandchildren: June- Marie, Mark, Johnny, James, Anthony and Michael Jr.; and his sister: Carol Federice.

He reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home, Massapequa Park, on Dec. 9, 2008. A Religious Service was held Dec. 10, 2008 at St. David's Lutheran Church, Massapequa Park followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery.
