Runners and walkers invited to 2009 Long Island Women's Run

Female runners and walkers from Massapequa, Amityville and other nearby communities are invited to sign up for the 2009 Arrow Exterminating Company Long island Women's 5 Ki­lometer Run for women runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.

Thiswill be the 26th anniversary edi­tion of the Run, which is Long Island's only running event that is for women only. It will be held Sat., July 18, 9 a.m. starting and finishing at the Woodward Parkway Elementary School in Farmingdale. Proceeds will once again be dedicated to the fight against ovar­ian cancer, through the work be­ing done by Long Island Oceans. Proceeds will also benefit Island Harvest, Long Island's largest hun­ger relief agency. The 5K Run will be preceded by the Little Women's Quarter Mile Fun Run for those under the age of 12. The entry fee for the 5K is $21 for those who register by July 10, $22 for those who register be­tween July 11 and 17 and $25 for those who register on the day of the race. Runners under the age of 16 who register by July 10 can take a 50 percent discount. TheQuarter Mile Fun Run is free.
